Keep up with the paparazzi.

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Love celebrity gossip? Spend way too much time going from website to website trying to find the latest scoop? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then you and I have a lot in common. You can bet I was excited when My Yahoo! and People Magazine decided to team up and create a whole page filled with the best content from People.com. Now you can get photos, news, video and style tips – all in one place.

Add the People.com preloaded tab now!.

The coolest thing is that you can drag your favorite modules from this page onto your other My Yahoo! pages. It’s really easy. Just click and hold the header of the module as if you were dragging it around the page. Then, drag it over the tab name for the page you want to drop it onto. Try it out!

They’re back…

Monday, January 28th, 2008

That’s right folks. We brought back the most beloved themes from the original My Yahoo!. Miss the simplicity of some of the old themes? Check out the ten “Old Favorites” we brought back. You’ll find them in the “Personalize this page” menu, under “Change Color.”

My favorite is “Sport” because it reminds me of a wall-paper I used to have in my room when I was a little kid. Check out these old faves and let us know which one you like best.

Have fun with the new, wait, I mean “old” themes.

Get there fast, and find lunch!

We recently fine-tuned the Yahoo! Local & Maps module to make it a super-convenient jumping off point for getting maps and local business listings. Here’s the nickel tour…

Finding places is easier with the Search Local tab.
The module’s “Search Local” tab gives you a quick way to look up businesses near an address. So you’re in the mood for pizza in San Francisco huh? Well just type a description of what you’re looking for in the “Search for:” box, input the address, and click “Search Local”. You’ll be taken over to Yahoo! Local, which is like the yellow pages on steroids. It had user reviews, a built-in map, and other helpful features.

But wait, how do I get there?
In the module’s “Driving Directions” tab, you can input the origin and destination addresses. Click “Get Map”, and you’ll be whisked off to Yahoo! Maps with your route already plugged in. Tip: If you omit the destination address, you’ll get a map centered on the origin address.

But wait there’s more!
Now, here’s the special ingredient that makes both of these features not just convenient, but super-convenient: if you click on the triangle next to an address field, you get a listing of locations you recently used on Yahoo!, saving you the trouble of looking up addresses over and over again. You can also save frequently-used addresses and give them convenient names like “Home”, “School”, “Work”, etc.

Add the Yahoo! Local & Maps module now!

We hope this module helps you get around your world a little bit easier.

PS…While you’re on Yahoo! Maps, be sure to check out their coolest new feature: drag & drop re-routing. If you don’t like the route that comes up, you can click on a part of it and drag it to another road. A new route will be automatically calculated and compared with the original route. This is really handy when you know there are problems on a particular road and you want to avoid it.

The next American Idol ® is…

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

The excitement. The thrill. The disappointment. The Sanjaya. It’s that time of year again – American Idol time! The show kicked off with auditions last week and I’m already hooked. Who will I root for? Who will come back from behind? Who will make Paula cry? Who will Simon make cry? Like a car crash, I just can’t look away. Imagine how excited I was when I saw EW.com’s new American Idol module. Yup – it’s a module dedicated to the show.

Now I get show recaps, witty commentary, and predictions right on my page. With EW.com’s in-depth coverage and great writing, I am guaranteed to never miss a beat (or an off-key performance of ‘Go Down Moses’ – thanks James!). Let’s all go to Hollywood – Add the American Idol module now!

Find what you’re looking for.

Now, when you search from your My! page, Yahoo! Search Assist predicts what you’re searching for and offers you suggestions. Try searching for the word “NFL” for example.

Yahoo! Search Assist immediately gives you a list of the most popular search queries containing the word “NFL.” It’s like you’re asking your friend. A smart friend, that is. Someone who knows where to find answers to everything under the sun.

When you see what you want, just click it and Yahoo! Search Assist will fire off the search for you. It’s that simple.

Try it out!
