Make your page load faster.

Hi everyone,

I am a content aggregator and LOVE adding new modules to my My Yahoo! page; however, sometimes this means my page loads a little bit slower than I’d like. If you keep all your modules, but want your page to still load quickly, you can try these two tricks.

Collapse modules for faster page loading
Simply click the arrow in the left hand corner of a module.

Before

After

If you want to read the collapsed content, just click the arrow again and the module will open. I find this very useful as I can collapse individual modules that I don’t look at often, but like to have handy (such as “Movie Showtimes”). Now, my page is loading faster, but I can still see what’s playing on a Friday night whenever I want!

Create separate pages to speed up My Yahoo!
You can always add an extra page by clicking the ‘Add Page’ button at the top of the page (each page loads separately, meaning that the page you’re on loads faster as there are fewer modules). Once you do that, you can drag modules from your original page to your new page.

I did this with all of my ‘work-related’ modules (like TechCrunch or Advertising Age). That way, I can review my personal stuff and work stuff separately. Or, if I want a quick read on what’s new in my industry, I can just click over to my second page and scan for news.

Both of these tricks will minimize the amount of information your page has to load when you first open your My Yahoo! page, helping you get to what you want faster.

Try it out!

I am having trouble with my yahoo page. It says that I have “X” number of emails, on my home page, but when I get to my inbox, the number is usually significantly less. Sometimes it says on my home page that I have 3 email messages, but when I get to my inbox, it’s empty.. What’s up with that?

Thank you for the tip. I like the idea of putting the messenger on it’s own page. Hope that will do it!
