I heartily endorse this. I will be making gifts for me family this year.
For all you people who like the idea but don't think you have the talent, go check out etsy.com the place for buyers and sellers of all things handmade.

In 1992, my husband was laid off and we had very little for christmas. My husband was good at making things and I was into decorative painting and I also know how to do a lot of needle work.
So I painted and Ken made frames, and a lap desk etc.. We went out and chopped down a tree for 10.00 and made our own ornaments even though we had boxes full of the same in the basement and a tree also. My daughter then about 12 yrs old and I went to the mall with a pen and paper and had a race to see who could spend more on paper. To this day we talk about that christmas as the best we ever had. I could go on and on, but I'm running our of room. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year....Do with what you have.
