I have been an active My Yahoo! user since its launch. The Stock Portfolios module was the first tool I used to track stocks. At that time the only investment I made was with my employee stock plans, so I used the module mainly to monitor how other companies in my industry were doing. A bubble and thousands of trades later, I am now actively managing a portfolio of a dozen securities and closely researching more than 100 others. I still find the Stock Portfolios module my best companion when I enjoy the roller-coaster ride of the capital markets.

As an active investor, I use a suite of My Yahoo! modules to track my portfolio performance, monitor foreign currencies, and make informed financial decisions. Specifically, I’ve found it handy to set up my page like a financial dashboard, with Marketing Summary , Company News and Stock Portfolios grouped next to each other.

When the markets are in session, I periodically scan the dashboard from left to right, starting at the NASDAQ intraday chart and other key indices, followed by latest news about the stocks I hold. I end at my portfolios, looking for any significant price movements that may require my immediate attention. This often triggers me to look for related news, so I point my mouse over the news icon next to the stock symbol for more info. In addition, the Stock Portfolios module also allows me to track cash balances, money market funds, mutual funds, ETFs, currencies, options and futures, in all major exchanges worldwide.

For the international investors, merchants and travelers among us, the Currency Converter provides a quick and easy way to manage forex transactions. Tip: you can track the exchange rate to as many as 6 foreign currencies at the same time by putting the currency (e.g. USD) in both the top row and the leftmost column of the currency table. This is just one of the many ways to use this compact but powerful module.

Happy investing!

The Company News module is back; now loaded with options that bring you breaking news in multiple views to keep you informed of what matters most to you.

Ticker View
This gives you full control of the companies you want to read about. Start with customizing the list of companies (Edit). Then read them all at once (Show All). Or for a sharper focus on your watch list, selectively expand individual tickers. Any time you want, you can expand a ticker with a single mouse click. And the number of headlines shown per company is, of course, your choice (Edit).

New Portfolio View
We’ve designed this for both portfolio investors and those who just want a new perspective. All news related to a portfolio’s ticker symbols are grouped and sorted in reverse chronological order. This makes scanning news about a large group of companies easy and can help you keep an eye on portfolios you are actively managing. The number of headlines displayed per portfolio is, again, up to you.

What I like most about the views is that you can flip back and forth between them by simply clicking on the Portfolio and Ticker tabs at the top of the module. Those with big portfolios may find “Show All” and “Hide All” helpful too.

Add Company News and let us know what you think.

If you’ve been using the Stock Portfolios to monitor the ups and downs of your investments, we’ve got some new features for you to play with!

Quick information. Just place your cursor on the callout next to the ticker symbol in your portfolio, and intraday charts and news headlines will appear in a hover bubble.

Organize to your heart’s content. Create multiple portfolios and categorize your stocks however you want… ”long term”, “short term”, “401K”, “just watching”…or whatever works for you. Each portfolio accommodates cash positions and tallies things up to show a cumulative gain/loss.

Easy data entry. Editing the information in each portfolio is MUCH easier than before. Just click “edit” and enter your data.

Bunch more stuff. Now you get % change (in addition to value change), an up/down indicator, a refresh link, and support for international equities and foreign exchange rates.

While we can’t promise better value performance of your portfolio, we do think that keeping an eye on it will be much easier.

This is one of our most popular modules and we’re excited to provide you with some enhancements. Your ideas have been very helpful, keep them coming.

Happy investing!
