One thing I’ve learned over the 10 month-long roller coaster ride since my daughter Madelyn was born is that there are DEFINITELY not enough hours in the day anymore. To help other parents out there struggling like I am with a lack of sleep, my colleagues convinced me to share one tidbit of learning on how to save valuable minutes during the first years of parenthood.
I’m a geeky My Yahoo! user, so one of the first things I did during my maternity leave was build a special page full of “mom stuff” to help me keep track of the massive volumes of parenting-related information I was now consuming on a daily basis. The most valuable information I’ve collected on this page are the blogs of my family and friends who are also new moms. Checking out my friend Sheila or Dina’s blogs to see what little Sydney or Jack are up to is usually the best way for me to get a glimpse into what Maddy will probably be doing in the next few weeks.
I’m also more addicted than ever to my digital camera, so of course I check out my Flickr activity at least once a day to see if anyone’s commenting on Maddy’s latest photos (I also set up special modules with each of my sisters’ Flickr feeds, because I don’t want to miss a single new photo of my niece or nephews!). Other tools I can’t live without are my To Do List, Calendar, and the Diet Tracker (still hoping to get into better shape). And last but not least are all the helpful parenting resources and interesting mommy blogs out there like Work It! Mom, BabyCenter’s MOMformation, Shine’s Parenting channel, MomLogic and dooce.
Are you a busy Mom with a My Yahoo! page? Share your ideas in the comments.
