Ever hear a song and think, “Hmm, never heard that one before?” Well, with these great feeds you can transform your My Yahoo! page into a gateway to the world of new music.

One of the best ways you can learn about hot new music is to tune into what other musicians are listening to. The Sound Opinions module features famous and other not-so well known artists playing their own tunes and songs that they enjoy themselves.

Hip hop changes constantly with new mixes and artists. About.com’s Rap/Hip-Hop module gives you a solid source of news and reviews oriented more towards the casual listener who just wants to keep up with the latest sounds.

Pitchfork Media is one of the most famous sites for following the always-changing realm of Indie Rock. With their module you’ll get clever, opinionated reviews covering pop, experimental, country, and dance music – and the reviews appear at lightning speed.

Most of these sites focus on Western music. For more on world music, try the Sound Roots module. It’s a great blog that covers music from around the globe, even from Africa and Indonesia. Expand your ears with instruments like the aponga or the charango!

I recently realized that with My Yahoo!, there is almost no limit to the kinds of content you can get on your page.

Are you starting to care for your parents? Feeling the pressures of helping with health-care, housing, transportation, and legal matters? It can be stressful, but the Caring.com module will bring you expert tips, anecdotes, health updates and more, all in one module.

Once you add the Caring.com module you’ll feel like you have your own personal expert there to answer your questions.

Hi there My Yahoo! photo fanatics,

A few months ago, I created a Flickr account so I could share my photos with family and friends. Now, with the new Flickr module, I start my day with pictures of my nephew when I open my My Yahoo! page.

I hope you’re as excited as I am about this new Flickr module. In order to see your photos, be sure to first set up a free Flickr account. Once you’ve done this, the Flickr module will stream your photos right onto your page. Then, click on any thumbnail image to view as a larger photo and even as a slideshow!

This module is jam-packed with cool features such as “Everyone’s Photos,” “Interestingness,” and a Flickr activity tracker. Check back here on the blog for Part 2 to get more information and tips on how to get the most out of the Flickr module. In the meantime get those Flickr accounts uploaded with photos!

You’ll find the answer in Most Popular this Week file in the “Personalize this Page” tab. Every week (Wednesdays in fact), this section of the content directory is updated based on what is popular.

The list is in rank order, so the module at the top of the list appears on the most number of My Yahoo! pages around the world!

Right now, that’s E! Online, but news and sports abound. CNN, ESPN and The New York Times seem to frequently make the list.

Hi everyone,

I am a content aggregator and LOVE adding new modules to my My Yahoo! page; however, sometimes this means my page loads a little bit slower than I’d like. If you keep all your modules, but want your page to still load quickly, you can try these two tricks.

Collapse modules for faster page loading
Simply click the arrow in the left hand corner of a module.

Before

After

If you want to read the collapsed content, just click the arrow again and the module will open. I find this very useful as I can collapse individual modules that I don’t look at often, but like to have handy (such as “Movie Showtimes”). Now, my page is loading faster, but I can still see what’s playing on a Friday night whenever I want!

Create separate pages to speed up My Yahoo!
You can always add an extra page by clicking the ‘Add Page’ button at the top of the page (each page loads separately, meaning that the page you’re on loads faster as there are fewer modules). Once you do that, you can drag modules from your original page to your new page.

I did this with all of my ‘work-related’ modules (like TechCrunch or Advertising Age). That way, I can review my personal stuff and work stuff separately. Or, if I want a quick read on what’s new in my industry, I can just click over to my second page and scan for news.

Both of these tricks will minimize the amount of information your page has to load when you first open your My Yahoo! page, helping you get to what you want faster.

Try it out!
